Furnage KM 7 Tripoli Libya
The El Kelani Company was established in Tripoli in the early 1960s by Mr. Ali El Kelani. He’s the father of the current CEO, Mr. Seddig El Kelani.
Initially Mr Ali El Kelani funded a construction & masonry company named ORAS Internatioanl which quickly gained a very good reputation. In the following years, noting the success of his construction business Mr. Ali El Kelani decided to invest in the Ready-to-Wear industry , off-course the influence of Italian culture to Libyan society at the time had to do with this completely different line of work . He initially bought the goods through Europe, mainly Italy, France and Spain, and then opened a distribution network in Tripoli while becoming the owner of several stores in the Libyan capital Tripoli .
The business was flourishing until 1970 when Muammar Gaddafi took the power. The economical situation slowly deteriorated and in 1978 the Jamahiryan government decided to nationalize all companies and to prohibit private trade. The State has also confiscated many goods including land & property. The private sector has remained inoperative for 10 years. In 1988, Gaddafi decided on a strategic change leading to a liberalization of the economy.
In 1989, Mr Seddig El Kelani restarts the company of his father while keeping the construction branch. But he decided to focus his investments on Automobile and it’s Spare Parts, PEUGEOT was the leading and most popular car at the time . It was a smart move which quickly grew. But in 1992, Libya faced a difficult situation, the country was isolated from the international scene and the embargo imposed by the United Nations weakened business . Moreover the exchange rates USD v/ Libyan Dinar exploded and it was difficult to cope with this new problem.
In April 1999, Libya was reintegrated into the international community . The situation returned to normal and all of the former traders got back to work . In this context Mr. Kelani established a new company, ORAS INTERNATIONAL CO.S.P.A for import of cars and spear parts , then in 2006 Mr Kelani relunched he’s dad’s well known company name ORAS INTERNATIOANL CO.S.P.A Ready-to-Wear after having being off-work for more than 7 years . In 2012 after 17/Feb revolution and change of power Mr Kilani contributed with A French partner Mr Alberth Rihani to Fund ORAS INTERNATIOANL CO.S.P.A foodstuff . Mr Siddiq Kelani soon felt it was time to keep everything under the same umbrella when he announced the Lunching of ORASCO GROUP:
- ORAS INTERNATIONAL CO .S.P.A Import cars and spare parts
- ORAS INTERNATIONAL CO S.P.A Ready to Wear and Cosmetics
- ORAS INTERNATIONAL CO .S.P.A Import food products
- ORAS INTERNATIONAL LTD CO Construction and Masonry
- AUTO SPARE TRADING LTD (MALTA) est 2015
The main reason of obtaining the group was to have each company specialized in it’s own line of work as the Libyan law for trading imposes commercial area variation , and most important to keep all different employees of 5 company feeling that all is under the same umbrella .
Since the early 1960s as previously mentioned, the Kelani family had a very good reputation in its field of expertise, specifically the name Ali El Kelani whose assets and property were valued at that time, at more than 12.368.000 USD. The hand then passed to Mr. Seddig El Kelani, the actual General Manager now , who continuously developed the company work .
In 1999, an agreement with Automobiles PEUGEOT was signed, allowing ORAS INTERNATIOANL CO.S.P.A spare parts to become the official distributor of the internationally known brands vehicles. In line, ORAS opened an after -sales service 2800 mt2 workshope in Tripoli Located next to the head office of the company, The Automobiles and Spare Parts branch had grown considerably and the activities of ORAS INTERNATIONAL CO.S.P.A spare parts in the automotive industry turned into success when becoming the official distributor of VALEO France, AUTOMOTOR France and SASIC France.
Early 2000, new collaborations took place with three Japanese companies to represent them as official distributor: YOHOHAMA Tires, NGK Sparking Plugs, GS YUASA Batteries.
New names came along such as MANDO and HVCC after the influence of Korean Brand cars to the Libyan Market , in 2010 a new collebration took place with TOTAL France to be the official lubricant distributor for the Brand in Libya .
The main attractive aspect for the company and may be the reason for establishment of this branch was juices and Dairy products . ORAS INTERNATIONL CO.S.P.A food stuff first began it’s business with a SAUDI Arabian juice making factory called CISAR , then began to import dairy Products from France and Holland . Soon later we had contact with the most know juice making name across Europe PFANNER shortly after we became the official sale agent of the Brand . ORAS INTERNATIOANL CO.S.P.A also imported Cleaning products from Europe mainly ( Poland and England ) from well known wholesale companies .
